Francois has been a huge relief this last year and half since I started working him. As a Berlin transplant, the unique struggles I was undergoing required kind, mindful insight that he readily provided, exactly when I needed it. Over the course of a year working together, Francois has been attentive, compassionate, and provided a deeply grounding presence for me. I would highly recommend him to anyone needing it.

I started seeing Francois for trauma support after my family lost two of our homes in the Pacific Palisades fire. As a third-generation Palisadian, it felt as though my community and life history were erased overnight.
I found Francois through the It’s Complicated directory while looking for someone who could help me process that kind of loss and grief. He was kind when I reached out and even followed up after I went quiet for a while — something I really appreciated. If you’re dealing with something heavy, he’s excellent at that. But I also stayed with Francois long after the fire discussions because he’s genuinely good at helping with ordinary life stuff too. During our time working together, I finished an advanced degree, navigated expat life in Berlin, and worked on rebuilding both back home and here. I’m familiar with therapy, but I don’t usually stay in it long-term. I stayed with Francois because I kept growing.
So if you’re scrolling for hours through therapist listings in Berlin, let me just help you cut through the overwhelming amount of options and recommend scheduling an introductory session with him. It’s painless, and you’ll thank this random Google review later.
What makes the work with him so meaningful is his wisdom and clarity. He sees things as they are without making them feel reductive or overly clinical. He’s also very good at sitting with heavy emotions without making them feel heavier or pathologizing. There were many times I came in carrying a lot, and he met me there with steadiness while still leaving room for lightness and humor when it naturally came up.
Above all, I’ve appreciated that he never tried to reduce me to just ‘the person going through a hard time.’ He let me be dynamic. He’s warm, present, and easy to be honest with, even on difficult days. There were moments when I needed support outside of our scheduled sessions, and he showed up in ways that mattered. I’ve grown up so much since I started working with him, and I give Francois a lot of credit for that.
If you’re looking for thoughtful, grounded, and genuinely warm therapy support in Berlin, I recommend reaching out to him. - Frans Taljaard··from Google
